Dr. Rense Lange holds a Ph.D.
in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Computer
Science, both from the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign. Now president of Integrated
Knowledge Systems (IKS), Dr. Lange is well
known for introducing modern psychological measurement
– and Rasch scaling in particular – to online
testing applications. As well, Dr. Lange was a
pioneer in the application of neural nets to data
mining in applied contexts, including forensics
and consumer behavior. After first developing
the revolutionary GEMCAT software for this purpose,
he further pioneered the application of catastrophe
theory in econometrics, consumer behavior, and
psychiatry.
His recent work includes the
development of smell-recognition tests for medical
applications based on Rasch scaling, the implementation
of specialized software for online Computer Adaptive
Testing (CAT), the evaluation of complex artificial
intelligence software using objective measurement,
and the design, implementation, and evaluation
of online tests and dating systems for online
relationship sites. Given its innovative character
of this work, aspects of this work have been reported
in highly visible scientific journals, and Dr.
Lange frequently presents aspects of his work
at professional conferences. His work on the Dewey
Color System thus continues his interest in applying
new approaches to new and exciting issues that
promise to change our notions of theory and research
in several academic disciplines.
